WHAT IS SOMTIMES MUSIC?

Sometimes Music is a "micro" record label specializing in limited edition recordings. Each release is limited to 100 copies (currently CD only - vinyl records are planned for the future), and is sold exclusively on www.sometimesmusic.com.

The retail price for all of our releases (LPs, EP’s and Singles) is $10 (US). Once a record is sold out, it will be out of production and no longer available - there will be absolutely no further pressings produced by Sometimes Music. Digital song downloads are NOT for sale through Sometimes Music - however, free song previews are available for every release sold through our site.

Our goal is to release new, exciting, cutting-edge and stylistically diverse music. Our limited run, one-of-a-kind records come in well designed and smartly produced packaging, and appeal to music fans, collectors and DJs who appreciate great music and want it in a “physical” form (a collectable “object” - as opposed to a downloaded music file). We aim to create a product with intrinsic value not only for its listening enjoyment and DJ worthiness, but as a rare object in itself.



WHAT KIND OF MUSIC ARE WE INTERESTED IN?

We’re open to pretty much ALL kinds of music, but are mainly interested in electronic, experimental, and dance\disco\underground\hip-hop inspired sounds - Basically, any style that can trace it’s roots back to disco, house music, electro-pop or early hip-hop.

PLEASE NOTE - We are NOT purists and love style hybrids and things that incorporate disparate influences.

OUR DEAL

The deal that we’re offering to artists is unique to our label. We do not ask for the rights to any recordings, nor do we wish to “exclusively” license tracks. The artist retains total control over their music, and is free to sell and/or license it however they wish. Sometimes Music retains the limited right to manufacture and sell 100 copies of an artists recordings with no further obligation from the artist, - meaning, the artists is free to sell the same tracks on iTunes, or release the same tracks on another label as they please.

A similar model for visual artists is being used on 20X200 - this is an awesome site that features affordable limited edition prints by various artists and photographers.



KEEP SALES SIMPLE & FAIR

Sometimes Music splits any profit from sales of a record with the artist 50/50, once production costs are recouped - most labels (when they actually pay the artist) give 10-12 “points” or percent on profits after costs.



RELEASES

We'll have at least one new release available a month, once the site is up and running. We also plan to produce an annual “best of” compilation with highlights from the year.
